![]() A prime motivation for doing so is to monitor the socioeconomic wellbeing of vulnerable populations ( Loveman 2014 Morning 2008). Governments throughout the world routinely classify individuals into racial categories using national censuses and specialized surveys. While previous studies have acknowledged the endogeneity of race, ours is the first to explicitly model racial self-identification as an endogenous predictor to obtain an unbiased estimate of its effect on individuals’ socioeconomic conditions. However, when we use an instrumental variables model that treats racial self-identification as endogenous, that is, as a function of the same unobserved characteristics as individuals’ earnings, we find a significant negative effect of black identification on earnings. Results from our initial models treating racial self-identification as an exogenous predictor indicate that black men have higher earnings than non-black men. We find evidence of a substantial bias in estimates of racial disadvantage. This survey is the first by the government agency since the country’s independence to include a question on black identification. We illustrate this potential bias using data from a large-scale survey conducted by the Mexican census bureau. When such factors are also associated with socioeconomic outcomes such as earnings, estimates of the disadvantage experienced by individuals because of how they identify racially obtained from standard regression models may be biased. ![]() We will not return.A growing body of sociological research has shown that racial identification is not only fluid, but crucially depends on other individual- and societal-level factors. We found a rooftop management that does not understand the business potential of having comfortable couches and fire pits in a rare rooftop setting, nor does it care for customer treatment. We got a manager who threw us off an unmarked couch without an offer of compensation for the inconvenience. Instead, there was an enticing couch and fire pit- shouldn't this area be for cocktails and socializing? You get one chance to make a good first impression and Alba DID NOT make a good impression! We got a nasty waitress who cared more about her potential dinner tips than we the customers. The manager said that the couch was for dining, despite the fact that there was no dining table and no sign to indicate that. ![]() We two guys were replaced with a man and woman couple- we felt truly mistreated. Within a few minutes the manager asked us to move off the couch. She did not clear the glasses and napkins from the previous patrons and she did not ask us if we wanted menus or another drink. The female server attending the left couch at 8:00 PM on July 5th was EXTREMELY RUDE- there was no "hello" or "welcome", just a curt comment: "If a larger party shows up, you need to move". When one of the couches opened up, we moved there to enjoy our drinks and maybe chat with others. The bartender was very friendly, as was server Deb. We arrived, excited to spend a summer evening at the new rooftop bar. As a waitress at an upscale casual restaurant I’m super tolerant but this just seemed slightly ridiculous, especially for the price. For me there were a lot of restrictions on my dinner (who doesn’t want bread though and the speech about meat temps was unnecessary) because I was sitting outside and although my boyfriend and I had a nice time I probably won’t be back for a while unless invited and won’t choose Alba unless it’s winter and we can get the full service we deserve. The valet was super nice as was our waitress but when I ordered a medium rare cheeseburger she recited a speech about how it may not look medium rare because we’re outside and something about lighting and essentially that they won’t take meat back to cook it again it it's served on the deck. If I’m paying $45 for a filet and I want bread honestly why would they not serve it just because I’m sitting on the deck enjoying the summer? Odd. I’m not sure if the menu differs from the dining room (not sure why it would) but while my bf enjoyed $1 oysters (he said they were great-I’m allergic) for some reason when I asked for bread I was told they didn’t serve it on the deck. I’ve been going to Alba on and off since it opened.the service is always pretty good and when I went with my boyfriend Tuesday night we sat on the roof deck for dinner.
